Nuclear Medical Technologist

Employment Type & Shift Full time—Day Shift (with weekend and holiday rotation and on call until 10pm). Location Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital (Ypsilanti, MI). The position may also be scheduled for some hours at Livingston Hospital in Brighton. Position Purpose The Nuclear Medical Technologist operates a variety of hot‑lab and diagnostic NM imaging equipment to obtain images of the anatomy of interest for interpretation by Radiologists, emphasizing As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) concepts. The technologist processes images according to specific diagnostic protocols and may assist the physician with the administration of therapeutic radionuclides. Qualifications Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technologist program or an Associate in Applied Science degree. Registration as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. One year NM experience preferred. Good working knowledge of cross‑sectional anatomy, proficiency in venipuncture, and expertise in quality control procedures and operation of hot‑lab and NM imaging equipment. Responsibilities Receive patients and explain procedures prior to and during exams. Observe patient condition and collect pertinent information relative to the ordered test. Calculate radionuclide activity, prepare appropriate dosage and volume of radiopharmaceuticals, and perform quality control procedures. Maintain sterility and integrity of prepared radiopharmaceutical compounds. Prepare imaging devices and administer doses intravenously, orally, or by inhalation. Perform standard NM dynamic, static, SPECT, and PET‑CT imaging procedures, adjusting equipment as needed. Monitor and maintain patient’s ancillary equipment (e.g., supplemental oxygen, IV lines) and observe for changes in status. Prepare specialized radiopharmaceuticals for in‑vitro or in‑vivo labeling and manage patient blood samples for external radiolabeling. Report excessive radiation exposure and perform tasks related to receiving, processing, distributing, and storing radioactive materials. Inspections and routine preventive maintenance of instrumentation, initiate vendor service calls for repairs, and ensure compliance with radiation safety procedures and regulations.
