About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 7 to 7:30 or 10 to 10:30 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Current RN License Certifications: Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required Must-Have: Emergency room experience preferred Description: Provides direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting. Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimal supervision. Safely, rapidly, and accurately triages every patient entering the emergency care system. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient status, symptoms, and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Roles & Responsibilities: Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, and consults with other specialists as required. Adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and conduct reassessments according to policy. Assesses and reassesses pain adequately while utilizing appropriate pain management techniques. Educates patients and families regarding pain management. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that prioritizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of healthcare errors. Monitors the hemodynamic status of patients and interprets the results accurately. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias, and treats appropriately. Accurately assigns triage categories. Maintains accurate and continuous nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs of patients and families. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan. Interprets data about patient status to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care. Formulates teaching plans based on identified learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning. Includes families in teaching as appropriate. Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition. Follows the five rights of medication administration to reduce the potential for errors. Prepares, hangs, monitors, and discontinues IV fluids as needed. Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards. Ensures a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families. Performs duties in a safety-conscious manner to reduce the risk of work-related injury or illness. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and the proper functioning of equipment. Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conservation of supplies and equipment. Completes all patient charges accurately. Cooperates with personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee relations. Assists physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department as needed. Leads one or more employees performing similar work and supervises temporary employees. Trains new employees, allocates, and monitors the work of others. Participates in performance improvement activities. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops. Demonstrates responsibility for ongoing education and professional practice. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
