CRIMINAL CONFLICT AND CIVIL REGIONAL COUNSEL – 2ND REGION – ASSISTANT REGIONAL COUNSEL (Pos. #21016221) Office: Justice Administrative Commission Overview Open attorney position for the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel. Current admission to the Florida Bar is required. Responsibilities Accept, research, and prepare each case efficiently and expeditiously. Advise and counsel clients regarding plea offers, rights, options, strategies, sentencing, appellate rights, etc. Establish and maintain professional relationships with clients, families, witnesses, and court personnel. Maintain open lines of communication with clients and other stakeholders. Coordinate investigators, interns, and other support staff as appropriate. Seek assistance from experts relevant to the case. Demonstrate maturity and a professional demeanor at all times. Exercise sound judgment to achieve desired results. Handle emergency assignments when needed. Attend and participate in training seminars, division meetings, and staffing sessions. Abide by all Regional Counsel policies and procedures, including attendance, punctuality, and professional dress code. Perform other related work as required. Hours 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Supervisory Responsibilities Some supervisory duties may be assigned in coordination with a managing attorney or circuit chief. Qualifications Eligibility : Member in good standing of the Florida Bar. Education : Juris Doctorate (JD). Experience : Relevant experience in criminal and civil cases (including appellate work) desirable. Skills and Abilities Effective verbal and written communication; correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures. Sound judgment, good listening skills, and ability to handle matters with integrity and confidentiality. Planning and preparing reports, correspondence, and charts in various formats. Proficiency with personal computer and general office equipment; effective use of Microsoft Word and Outlook. Exceptional organization, ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain an effective filing system. Capacity to manage multiple assignments simultaneously—including long‑ and short‑range projects—and flexibility in work assignments and processes based on need. Travel to various locations within the circuit for assignments and training. Basic mathematical ability: add, subtract, multiply, and divide with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions, evaluate problems, isolate key issues, research, and develop alternative solutions in standardized situations. Physical Demands Requires regular mobility, speech, hearing, and occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds. Requires competent vision for close and distance tasks.
