Lab Technician - 1.0 FTE, Day 8 HRS

Overview Senior Technical Support – Laboratory Specimen Processing in the Premedical Services Department at Stanford Health Care. Responsibilities Access patient information into Laboratory Information System(s) and verify accuracy of requests. Consult with Supervisor or Technologist on problematic requests and notify relevant departments if samples are inappropriate or compromised. Prepare specimens for testing and quality control according to established procedures. Assist in routine and preventive maintenance of automated and semi‑automated instruments. Determine specimen suitability and perform pre‑analytical processing as required. Inventory, order, verify, restock, and distribute laboratory supplies. Maintain logs and records for all laboratory transactions in compliance with regulatory requirements. Monitor and record temperatures of incubators, heating blocks, water baths, freezers, and refrigeration units, and report any deviations. Organize, catalog, and store patient specimen samples. Participate in pre‑clinical test development per protocols. Execute clerical duties such as word processing, database entry, and handling calls or inquiries. Process specimens that have been analyzed for outside reference laboratories and ensure proper distribution to the laboratory or other hospital departments. Overall, perform a variety of clerical functions and support tasks as directed. Education High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Effective oral and written communication. Ability to follow procedures and learn clinical support technology. Strong relational skills and teamwork. Basic business mathematics (ratios, percentages). Capacity to plan, organize, multitask, and adapt to priority changes. Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking). Basic computer skills and proficiency with Windows‑based operating systems and applications. Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Technical skills: aliquoting, calculating reagent dilutions, pipetting, and weighing reagents. Licenses & Certifications None required. Pay & Benefits Hourly rate of $42.51 - $47.67, based on experience, education, and internal equity.
