About the Organization
Phi Kappa Tau is entering an exciting period of growth and opportunity, as it builds on a 120-year tradition of championing brotherhood, learning, ethical leadership, and exemplary character. The fraternity serves 4,300 undergraduate members at approximately 80 chapters, and has about 100,000 alumni members. While the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity experience begins on campus, it lasts a lifetime: throughout their lives, members form meaningful friendships, find opportunities to lead and serve, and build powerful personal and professional networks.
Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity (the Fraternity) is a 501(c)(7) nonprofit headquartered in Oxford, Ohio with a national staff of approximately 15 professionals and an elected Board, known as the National Council. It supports campus chapters and members with leadership development, educational programming, recruitment, chapter operations, national events, and alumni programs. The Fraternity is funded from undergraduate member fees, event registration fees, and an educational grant from the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation (the Foundation). The Foundation is an affiliated 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization with its own Board of Trustees and professional staff. The Fraternity collaborates with the Foundation on communications, events, alumni programming, and other areas where the two organizations have shared interests.
In its next phase of growth, the Fraternity’s strategic plan, Building the Phi Kappa Tau Experience , centers on strengthening existing chapters, expanding to new campuses, deepening undergraduate and alumni engagement, broadening leadership and learning opportunities, and creating greater value for members throughout their lives.
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help shape the Phi Kappa Tau member experience at a time when meaningful personal connection and ethical leadership are more valuable than ever before. The next CEO will bring Phi Kappa Tau’s recognized leadership education to a new generation of students while strengthening the bonds of brotherhood among all members.
The Opportunity
Phi Kappa Tau seeks an energetic, growth-minded Chief Executive Officer to champion its mission, support its members, and lead the organization into its next era of impact. Reporting to the National Council, the CEO will lead the execution of the organization’s strategic plan and serve as a highly relational leader who is equally comfortable working both in and on the organization. They will build credibility across a diverse community, from undergraduate members and young staff to alumni volunteers and university administrators.
Internally, the CEO will lead a national staff and oversee a complex organization with an annual budget of approximately $3 million. This leader will bring financial discipline and operational rigor, with particular attention to budgeting, forecasting, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. They will provide the mentorship, coaching, structure, and accountability needed to help both early career and experienced staff members grow and perform at a high level.
Externally, the CEO will focus on growth and engagement across the Fraternity. They will help existing chapters grow and thrive while executing our strategy to expand to new campuses. As a strong trust-builder and communicator, they will strengthen relationships with university administrators, engage Phi Kappa Tau’s alumni, expand its volunteer network, and create more opportunities for lifelong connection to the Fraternity.
The ideal candidate will bring an appreciation for fraternity and lifelong brotherhood and exposure to collegiate fraternal organizations – whether through membership, professional leadership, volunteer service, or board involvement. Experience within business, membership organizations, or nonprofits is likewise valued. This is an opportunity to pair seasoned leadership with fresh thinking to shape the future of Phi Kappa Tau for generations to come.
Location
Phi Kappa Tau’s headquarters is located in Oxford, Ohio, and the organization welcomes candidates based in or around the Greater Cincinnati area. There is a strong preference for a CEO who can maintain a regular and visible presence in the Executive Offices, working alongside the staff and providing in-person mentorship, particularly to early-career team members. The role includes regular travel of approximately 10 - 25% to engage with chapters, members, alumni, volunteers, university partners, and attend national events, as well as occasional evening and weekend commitments.
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Phi Kappa Tau offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and vision coverage, paid time off, employer-paid life and disability insurance, and a 401(k) plan with an employer match.
