CNC Machinist / CNC Operator Job Description
This role focuses on setting up, programming, and operating CNC mills and lathes in a job shop and production environment using G&M code. You will work with large vertical and horizontal CNC machines, perform your own setups, and ensure high-quality parts through precise machining and inspection. The position offers the opportunity to grow your technical skills, cross-train in related areas, and contribute to the production of critical components used in infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
Why Work Here?
You will join a stable company in a steady industry that supports critical infrastructure projects, offering long-term security and meaningful work. The schedule provides excellent work-life balance with four-day workweeks and three-day weekends. You can grow your career through cross-training opportunities in welding, CNC, maintenance, and potential supervisory roles, and you can earn certifications if you are not already certified. The organization offers comprehensive medical benefits, including health, dental, vision, and 401(k), along with a wellness reimbursement for employees enrolled in its insurance. You can benefit from attendance bonuses paid twice a year, production bonuses when direct, and an employee referral program. The culture has a smaller-company feel where everyone knows each other, with strong employee engagement through regular cookouts, tenure-based celebrations with gifts, and quarterly town halls that encourage your voice to be heard. The company provides PPE and uniforms, as well as safety boot and safety glasses reimbursement, and uses a fair point system that allows you to work off points with consistent attendance. During the contract or probationary period, you may have access to an adjusted schedule option before PTO eligibility, supporting flexibility as you transition into the role.
Work Environment
The role is based in a clean, non-union manufacturing facility that produces underworking components for bridges and highways, such as expansion joints, ball joints, and beams. You will work primarily on large CNC machines in a job shop and production run environment. Openings are available on second shift, with standard schedules of 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday for first shift and 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday for second shift. Voluntary overtime is offered, particularly during the spring and summer construction season. New hires typically train on day shift for a few weeks to a couple of months, though there is flexibility if training on days is not possible. The facility provides PPE and uniforms, along with safety boot and safety glasses reimbursement, supporting a safe and professional dress code. You will use CNC mills and lathes with Fanuc and Haas controls, precision measurement tools such as micrometers and calipers, and shop math in daily work. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, collaboration, and ongoing engagement through regular town halls and employee-focused activities.
