Equipment Engineer III - Transmission & Substation Services - Akron Fairlawn

Responsibilities include: Providing technical assistance and support for substation equipment, examples include:Review field test results for transmission and distribution of substation equipment and provide recommendations for resolution of identified deficiencies.Provide technical guidance for Asset Health Center/APM equipment, including transformers, circuit breaker, and battery test parameters. Examples may be investigating test results that are out of specification, investigating equipment issues, and providing recommended actions.Provide technical guidance for parameters of future assets to be incorporated into the Asset Health Center/APM, such as capacitor banks, voltage transformers, relay & controls, equipment monitors, DC systems, and protection communication devices.Development of new or modification of existing maintenance practices to address changing technology, new equipment types, improved test and diagnostic methods, regulatory changes, etc.Development of repair specifications for major equipment.Provide technical support to field personnel during capital projects, and preventative & corrective maintenance activities. Support training programs and provide training to TSS employees and regional personnel.Maintain awareness of emerging utility industry issues through benchmarking and participation in appropriate utility forums/groups. Participate in industry events as a subject matter expert.Maintain a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon a knowledge of potential hazards, industry regulations/requirements and company practices.Support the emergency plan through participation in assigned storm duties.Ability to work both independently and in unison with others including regional and plant personnel as well as other departments/sections and outside vendors.Willingness to travel throughout the FirstEnergy system including periodic overnight stays. Cover’s all the 30-year warranty stuff Ken does.Qualifications at the Equipment Engineer III level include:Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License (2) a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution (3) a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
