Diesel Mechanic

Diesel MechanicWaste Connections is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team in Fremont, NE. This role is responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs on fleet equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and takes pride in keeping equipment in top working condition.Schedule & CompensationShift: Monday–Friday, 7am-5pm and Saturdays following a HolidayPay Rate: $24-$27 per hour (based on experience)Key ResponsibilitiesPerform repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services. Performs inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulics, suspension brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.Conduct oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and basic mechanical adjustmentsIdentify potential mechanical issues and communicate findings to lead mechanics or supervisorsMaintain accurate maintenance and inspection recordsUtilize vehicle computer electrical systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns.Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and DOT regulationsKeep the shop and work areas clean, organized, and safeSupport mechanics with additional duties as needed to minimize equipment downtimeQualificationsPrevious experience with preventative maintenance on diesel or heavy equipment preferredBasic mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong attention to detail and commitment to safetyValid driver's license required (CDL preferred but not required)Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a shop environmentMust provide own toolsWhy Join Waste ConnectionsStable, year-round employment with a growing companyCompetitive pay with shift differentialOpportunity for advancement and skill developmentExcellent benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and moreStrong focus on safety and employee well-being
