Position Highlights

The University is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic IV Lead. This position performs highly skilled and complex maintenance and repair work across one or more building trades to ensure University facilities, systems, and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with institutional standards. This position independently diagnoses and resolves complex technical issues, recommends process and system improvements, and serves as a technical resource within their area of expertise. Work is performed with broad operational latitude and directly impacts building operations, safety, and service delivery across the campus.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform advanced skilled trades maintenance and repair.
• Independently perform complexinstallation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work in one or moreskilled trades (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanicalsystems, or building infrastructure).
• Ensure systems operate reliably, safely,and in accordance with codes, standards, and University procedures.
• Diagnose complex technical issues and implement solutions.
• Analyze highly complexequipment, system, or facility issues; determine root causes; and developeffective corrective actions.
• Exercise strong judgment and decision-making toselect appropriate methods, materials, and techniques to resolve problemsefficiently and safely.
• Serve as technical resource and mentor.
• Act as a subject-matter expert in assigned tradeareas.
• Provide guidance, technical consultation, and informal coaching tojunior staff, apprentices, and team members. Assist with training on tools,procedures, safety practices, and system operations.
• Coordinate workand communicate with stakeholders.
• Coordinate maintenance activities withsupervisors, other trades, contractors, and campus partners to minimize servicedisruptions.
• Communicate technical information clearly to both technical andnon-technical stakeholders, including reporting on work status and systemconditions.
• Support continuous improvement and compliance.
• Recommend improvements to maintenancepractices, workflows, and system performance.
• Maintain accurate documentation,work orders, and records. Ensure compliance with safety regulations,environmental requirements, and University policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of skilled trades practices, tools, materials, and methods related toassigned area(s) of expertise.
• Knowledge of building systems, equipment, safetyregulations, and applicable codes and standards.
• Understanding of preventivemaintenance principles and facility operations.
• Advanced troubleshooting andproblem-solving skills for complex technical issues.
• Ability to interprettechnical manuals, drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Effectivecommunication skills for coordinating with supervisors, peers, contractors, andcampus customers.
• Skill in using specialized tools, equipment, and diagnosticinstruments safely and effectively.
• Ability to work independently with minimalsupervision and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to prioritize and managemultiple tasks in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to mentor, train, andprovide technical guidance to less experienced staff.
• Ability to performphysically demanding work in varied environmental conditions, as required bythe role.

Minimum Qualifications

• High schooldiploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
• In addition tothe education and experience minimum qualifications, Apprenticeship program,technical training experience required.
• Seven years of relevantexperience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy .

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous work experience in a college/university setting.
• Seven years of experience in various maintenance trades/operations.
• Mastery-level knowledge of assigned trade(s) with the ability to work independently on highly complex tasks.
