Electrical & Instrumentation Technician

Jerritt Canyon

Job Description

Job Description

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician plays a key role in supporting the reliability and performance of site electrical and control systems at Jerritt Canyon. This position is responsible for executing maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation activities while ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.

Working closely with Maintenance and Operations teams, this role supports both preventative and corrective maintenance activities to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of site equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities on electrical and instrumentation systems in accordance with established procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and support operational continuity.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including high-voltage cable splicing, terminations, and transformer connections.
  • Support installation and maintenance of communication systems, including fiber optic cabling.
  • Perform testing, calibration, and verification of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Interpret and work with PLC control logic and instrumentation interfaces, including performing loop checks and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct electrical calculations related to motors, circuits, and system performance.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to prioritize and execute daily maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including reporting on daily activities and maintenance tasks.
  • Identify and support implementation of continuous improvement opportunities related to system reliability and performance.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable safety standards and regulatory requirements.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.

Education and Experience

  • 2–4 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance or a related field.
  • Experience working with industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of PLC systems, electrical troubleshooting, and instrumentation calibration.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and control logic.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and awareness of occupational hazards and safe work practices.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement process improvements to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Underground mining experience, to collaborate with the underground maintenance teams, is desired but not required.
