The Barista is the face of our bakery. Directly responsible for the brew and sale of coffee. Baristas have the opportunity to share each coffee's unique story and flavor on behalf of growers and the entire Dark Matter Coffee Company. Forming good Guest relationships is vital to creating repeat Guests, or "regulars."

Baristas should be able to recommend coffees based on Guest preferences as well as their own favorites and answer most questions about coffee. While reading and studying facts about coffee are important, there is a certain aspect of coffee knowledge that is only obtained by tasting different varieties or brews, noting the distinctions among them.

You will also be selling a wide variety of our baked goods from cake balls, to croissants, to lemon bars and loaves of bread. You will be responsible for tasting all of the items and being able to describe them, in detail to Guests; making suggestions and pairings when called upon. You will be producing all of the coffee based beverages for the store as well as answering the phone and taking to-go orders.

Other Functions:

• Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant Manager or immediate Supervisor

• Complying with health and food safety standards, restocking items, cleaning, etc.
\n
• Provide great Guest service and follow Fifty/50 Restaurant Group policies and procedures
\n
• Be a positive, upbeat and personable person at all times while working
\n
• Be able to stay calm and collected in what could at times be a stressful environment
\n

Physical Functions:

\n
• Ability to stand/walk a minimum of 8 hours or as needed
\n
• Must be able to exert well-paced and frequent mobility for periods of up to 8 hours or as needed
\n
• Be able to lift up to 20 pounds frequently
\n
• Will frequently reach, feel, bend, stoop, carry, finely manipulate and key in data
\n
• Work in both warm and cool environments
\n
• High levels of noise from music and Guests
\n
• Must be able to tolerate potential allergens: peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, vegetarian and/or vegan, soy, seafood and shellfish
\n

Qualifications, Education and Behavior:

\n
• At least 18 years old
\n
• Have a minimum of 1 year barista experience
\n
• Ability to work quickly while maintaining safety standards and procedures
\n
• Ability to properly handle a knife, confidently
\n
• Ability to work early morning and daytime shifts.
\n
• Ability to work consistent schedule at least 4 days per week 
\n
