Utility WorkerWaco ISD - Waco, TexasJob DescriptionJob Title: Utility WorkerWage/Hour Status: Non Exempt/At-WillReports To: Supervisor - CustodialPay Grade/Days: 303/240Dept./School: MaintenanceDate Revised: April 2009Primary Purpose: To maintain a clean and safe working environment where teacher can teach and student can learnQualifications:Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED certificate Valid Texas driver's license Must be eligible to drive based on the Texas DPS School Transportation GuidelinesSpecial Knowledge/Skills: Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions and the ability to communicate effectively Demonstrated competency in building custodial maintenance and personnel Ability to operate cleaning equipment and properly handle cleaning suppliesExperience: Two (2) years experience in the custodial fieldMajor Responsibilities and Duties:1. Substitute for the head custodian, lead custodian, or custodial helpers as assigned by the Supervisor of Custodial Services.2. Oversee the opening, closing, and securing of all buildings maintained; operate climate control equipment to sustain the proper temperature in all parts of the building.3. Insure that proper supplies are on hand and maintain inventory.4. Provide instruction and training in the proper operation and maintenance of custodial equipment in adherence to District guidelines for cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.5. Inspect the building daily and make needed repairs that are their responsibility; report other needed repairs according to established procedures.6. Render special services for students, staff, and patrons at the direction of the principal or Supervisor of Custodial Services.7. Demonstrate ability to work with others in a positive productive manner and perform such other tasks as may be assigned.8. Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers in buildings on a regularly scheduled basis.9. Perform other duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities: NoneEquipment Used: All custodial equipment including but not limited to buffers, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractorsWorking Conditions: Tobacco Free, Gun Free, Drug Free. Must be willing to work flexible hoursMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Typical school atmosphere. Frequent interruptions. Strenuous standing, stooping, walking, climbing ladders, bending, pushing and pulling, must be physically fit and able to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Working indoors, outdoors, in extreme temperatures including hot and cold temperature swings, inclement weather, around and exposed to dust, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), loud noises, and working on slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
