Mother’s Outreach Network (MON) is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit advancing racial justice and economic equity through liberatory legal representation, guaranteed income advocacy, and mother-led policy work. We center Black mothers navigating the family policing system, with a concentrated focus on communities in Wards 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. MON operates from the conviction that poverty is not neglect, and that every family deserves the tools to stay together and thrive. We are building toward a national presence. POSITION SUMMARY MON seeks a Chief of Staff to serve as a trusted operational partner to the Executive Director. This is a high-responsibility role for a highly competent, professionally grounded individual who thrives at the intersection of organizational management, executive support, and systems-building. The Chief of Staff ensures that MON’s day-to-day operations, cross-functional priorities, and internal systems run with precision, accountability, and consistency — in service of MON’s liberatory mission. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works across all program, development, legal, and communications functions. This position is full-time and in-person in Washington, DC. No remote or hybrid arrangement is offered. Candidates must confirm their ability and willingness to work on-site five days per week before applying. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Executive Partnership Manage the Executive Director’s calendar, scheduling, and communications with increasing autonomy Prepare briefings, talking points, and decision-support materials Protect the Executive Director's time and attention for high-leverage strategic work Surface risks and concerns with data, candor, and sound judgment Operations and Systems Own and maintain all organizational systems including Google Workspace, Asana, Clio, Little Greenlight, Mailchimp, DocuSign, and Grasshopper Build and maintain SOPs, checklists, and operational documentation Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and procurement Oversee office logistics, equipment, and facilities People and Culture Support all active hiring searches and own staff and contractor onboarding and off-boarding Maintain timesheet, payment, and reimbursement processes for all staff, contractors, and program participants Create conditions where a small, dedicated team can do their best work — removing operational friction, protecting staff time, and maintaining a professional environment grounded in clarity, accountability, and respect Finance and Grants Maintain the grants calendar and support grant reporting and new funding research Support budget review and vendor audits Programs and Events Own logistics and operational planning for MON events, convenings, and community gatherings Support program administration, participant tracking, and data collection Coordinate with communications and organizing staff on campaign logistics and timelines Board and Governance Support board meeting preparation, documentation, and follow-through Maintain board governance files and records QUALIFICATIONS Required A minimum of five years of progressive experience in Chief of Staff, executive operations, or equivalent roles Must have held the Chief of Staff title or performed equivalent duties within the last two years Must have worked in a primarily in-person role in their most recent position Demonstrated experience operating as a primary deputy to a founder, executive director, or CEO in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization Strong financial and systems literacy including experience with CRM platforms, project management tools, and financial reporting Demonstrated ability to build and maintain systems that run without constant oversight A consistent and verifiable professional track record — three professional references are required, at least one of whom must be a direct supervisor or executive the candidate has supported; references will be contacted and must be able to speak to the candidate’s performance, reliability, discretion, and judgment under pressure High ethical standards, sound professional judgment, and the kind of integrity that does not require oversight to maintain Meticulous attention to compliance, process, and organizational standards — candidates who take a casual approach to administrative, legal, or financial obligations are not a fit for this role Preferred Experience in a DC-based nonprofit organization Experience supporting board governance and donor or funder relations Professional experience supporting communities navigating systems of family separation, economic hardship, or racial injustice Familiarity with DC’s family policing system, guaranteed income policy, or racial justice advocacy DC Notary Public certification or willingness to obtain Experience in organizing, policy, and/or law COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary: $110,000 – $115,000 commensurate with experience Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance Leave: As specified in the offer letter New Year’s Day — January 1 Martin Luther King Jr. Day — Third Monday in January Presidents’ Day — Third Monday in February Memorial Day — Last Monday in May Juneteenth National Independence Day — June 19 Independence Day — July 4 Labor Day — First Monday in September Columbus Day — Second Monday in October Thanksgiving Day — Fourth Thursday in November Christmas Day — December 25 Washington, DC Holidays WORKING AT MON Mother’s Outreach Network is a founder-led organization in an active growth phase.
