Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

Position Overview

Mobile Air & Power Rentals (MAPR) is seeking an experienced Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) to lead our company-wide safety efforts and help drive a proactive, continuous-improvement safety culture.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations , this is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of regional EHS professionals while also providing direct EHS support for an assigned geographic region. The EHS Manager will partner closely with operational leadership and branch teams to identify and reduce workplace risks, strengthen safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote consistent safety practices across our multi-location organization.

This position requires a strong safety leader who is equally comfortable developing strategy, coaching a team, analyzing safety performance, conducting field audits, investigating incidents, and working directly with employees and operational leaders.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of regional EHS Coordinators/Safety Specialists located throughout the organization.
• Establish clear expectations, priorities, and performance standards for the EHS team while ensuring consistency across all regions.
• Partner with the VP of Operations and operational leadership to align EHS initiatives with company goals and business needs.
• Monitor safety performance and key performance indicators, including Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR) , and develop strategies to drive continuous improvement.
• Track regional safety activities, audits, corrective actions, and other compliance initiatives to ensure timely and consistent execution.

Regional EHS Support & Risk Management

• Serve as the primary EHS resource for an assigned geographic region, providing hands-on support to branches, employees, and project sites.
• Conduct safety audits, site visits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Identify, evaluate, and implement controls to reduce workplace hazards and operational risk.
• Oversee and standardize safety audit practices across the organization and review audit results and incident trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support consistent DOT and fleet safety compliance , including the review of telematics and Geotab data and partnership with operational leaders to address areas of non-compliance.
• Evaluate EHS-related contractors and vendors to support effective risk management and compliance.

Safety Programs, Training & Incident Management

• Support the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of company-wide EHS programs, policies, and initiatives.
• Drive participation and effectiveness of regional safety committees.
• Develop and coordinate safety training programs for field employees and operational teams.
• Evaluate organizational training needs and recommend programs to address knowledge or compliance gaps.
• Support and formalize specialized safety initiatives, including Competent Person programs and other role-specific training.
• Lead investigations of serious incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
• Analyze incidents, near misses, audit findings, and safety trends to identify opportunities to prevent future occurrences.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, education, accountability, and visible field leadership.

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Business, or a related field .
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive EHS/safety experience , preferably within a multi-location, construction, mechanical services, industrial services, or equipment rental environment.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and prioritize the work of a geographically dispersed team.
• Strong working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations .
• Experience conducting workplace safety audits, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning.
• Strong understanding of workplace risk management and safety best practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with employees and leaders at all levels of an organization.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace; experience with telematics, Geotab, ERP, or similar operational systems is a plus.
• OSHA 30-hour training required.
• Current or ability to maintain First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP), and AED certifications .
• CHST, CSP, or ASP certification preferred , or ability to obtain an applicable certification within six months of appointment.
• Lean and/or Six Sigma Green Belt certification or comparable continuous-improvement experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to successfully meet company Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) requirements.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% to support branch locations, project sites, and regional EHS operations.
