Job Description
This role focuses on constructing, installing, and repairing wood, metal, plywood, wallboard, and related fixtures for commercial, industrial, institutional, and agricultural buildings. You will work under the direct supervision of site superintendents and be regularly monitored by ownership to ensure quality, safety, and adherence to project specifications. The position involves both interior and exterior carpentry work, with a strong emphasis on precision, craftsmanship, and compliance with building codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made of wood, metal, plywood, and wallboard using a variety of carpenter’s hand and power tools.
- Perform finishing carpentry tasks, including detailed trim work, installation of interior finishes, and completion of high-visibility surfaces to a high standard of quality.
- Carry out framing and rough carpentry work, including setting forms, installing metal studs, and preparing structures to receive finished materials.
- Work on both interior and exterior components of commercial, industrial, institutional, and agricultural buildings in accordance with project plans and specifications.
- Read, interpret, and follow technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models to ensure accurate layout, measurements, and installation.
- Install materials, products, and equipment to meet design specifications and building code requirements.
- Use mathematics to measure accurately, calculate dimensions, and determine material quantities and layouts.
- Apply knowledge of building codes, standard methods, and construction practices to complete work safely and correctly.
- Inspect completed work and ongoing processes to evaluate quality, identify defects or deviations, and make necessary adjustments.
- Organize and maintain jobsite materials, tools, and equipment to support efficient workflow and minimize downtime.
- Plan and sequence tasks to manage time, resources, and manpower effectively while controlling costs.
- Use logic and critical thinking to troubleshoot issues, compare alternative solutions, and select the most effective approach to construction challenges.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and strategies to protect people, property, and equipment on the jobsite.
- Operate hand and power tools appropriate to carpentry tasks while maintaining them in good working order and reporting any defects or maintenance needs.
- Work cooperatively under the direction of site superintendents, following instructions and providing progress updates as required.
- Perform all duties without operating vehicles or heavy equipment and without handling money, in accordance with role-specific limitations.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated carpentry experience in finishing, framing, rough carpentry, and drywall work within commercial or similar construction environments.
- Proficiency in finishing carpentry, including detailed trim, interior finishes, and precise installation of fixtures and components.
- Experience with construction tasks such as setting concrete forms and working with metal studs.
- Knowledge of building and construction, including building codes and standard methods, materials, practices, tools, and equipment used in the carpentry trade.
- Ability to read and understand technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models to guide construction and installation activities.
- Strong critical thinking skills to use logic and reasoning when evaluating alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
- Installation skills to correctly install materials, equipment, and products in accordance with specifications.
- Mathematical ability to measure accurately, calculate dimensions, and solve construction-related problems.
- Mechanical knowledge of construction tools and equipment, including their uses, basic repair, and maintenance needs.
- Planning and organizational skills to arrange jobsite materials and activities efficiently.
- Quality control skills to inspect products, services, and processes and evaluate quality or performance.
- Resource and time management skills to use equipment, facilities, materials, and manpower appropriately while controlling costs.
- Solid understanding of jobsite safety practices, equipment, policies, and procedures to promote a safe working environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on commercial, industrial, institutional, or agricultural building projects.
- Exposure to farm or agricultural construction settings, including work similar to farm hand tasks.
- Ability to work effectively under direct supervision while maintaining a high level of independence and accountability in day-to-day tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality craftsmanship.
- Capability to adapt to changing jobsite conditions and project requirements.

Work Environment

All jobsites are uninhabited structures, so you will work in spaces that are not occupied by end users during construction. You will regularly use carpenter’s hand and power tools and handle materials such as wood, metal, plywood, wallboard, and concrete forms. The position does not involve operating vehicles or heavy equipment and does not include any money-handling responsibilities. Work conditions can vary with weather and site progress, and you will follow established safety practices and procedures appropriate to active construction environment

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $38.00/hr.
