Recreation Assistant

Summary This position is a Community Recreation Program associate located aboard NAS Pensacola in Ski Beach. The incumbent supports the Navy Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program through special events, recreation information, command events, fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party/picnic rentals, resale tickets, recreation green space management, bowling, library services, grab‑n‑go, movies, and outdoor recreation. Major Duties & Responsibilities Provides customer service, information, and support for Community Recreation programs and activities. Checks patron eligibility, provides information about activities, and manages opening/closing facilities, ordering, and restocking supplies. Collects fees from sales of tickets, retail and rental items, classes, trips, and other programs using POS systems. Maintains accuracy of daily sales transactions and completes a Daily Activity Report (DAR) after each shift. Assists with online registrations, initial log‑ins, and event registrations. Checks out recreation equipment, collects rental fees, inventories items, and performs inspections upon return. Notifies supervisors of damage or loss. Ensures rental forms are completed and procedures followed. Maintains inventory controls for equipment and resources. Assists in planning and administering workshops, clinics, and events in leisure and recreation skills. Provides day‑and‑weekend trip experiences. Administers day‑to‑day operations of multiple programs, including after‑action reports and patronage data entry. Performs inventory of equipment, retail goods, and cash‑valued items. Handles administrative duties using computer software for resource inventories and program metrics. Supports recruitment, training, and scheduling of Community Recreation staff. Promotes adherence to EEO principles and policies. Co‑ordinates planning, publicizing, marketing, and execution of MWR programs and events. Schedules entertainment and promotional activities. Maintains electronic and multimedia support tools. Drives outreach to promote MWR facilities and events on base. Promotes use of the MWR Library E‑reading resources. Builds partnerships with base and off‑base organizations. Supports community outreach and contact development. Assists in proposal creation, agreement execution, and follow‑up. Researches and refers recreational opportunities for individuals/families. Adheres to NAVMED P‑5010 sanitation requirements. Initiates and follows up on maintenance trouble calls. Assists with set‑up and break‑down of Community Recreation events. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Must meet Federal employment suitability requirements and successfully complete a background investigation. Must pass an E‑Verify employment verification check. Must complete a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process with two forms of ID from the Form I‑9. May be required to pass pre‑employment examinations. A valid State driver’s license is required. Direct deposit of salary is required. Selective Service registration required for eligible males. Comply with the REAL ID act for Government Facility access. Must be C.A.R.E. trained, hold Emergency First Responder or CPR First Aid certification, and hold a current Food Handler certification or obtain them within 90 days. Qualifications Six (6) months general experience combined with six (6) months specialized experience in customer service or recreation activities. Ability to organize, plan, and administer special events and entertainment activities. Independent worker who makes sound decisions and communicates effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of principles, techniques, and procedures for planning leisure activities. Knowledge of the Navy MWR mission and Community Recreation activities. Understanding of the functions, procedures, and operations of recreation activities. Strong customer service skills. Ability to maintain records, compile data for reports, and research recreation topics. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Computer literacy, office procedures, and print production knowledge. Key Conditions of Employment Must be registered or exempt from Selective Service. Selection may require a successful probationary period. Direct deposit pay program participation required. Social Security Card required. Background investigation and E‑Verify compliance required. Failure to maintain a favorable background may result in withdrawal.
