Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Clinical Decision Unit position in Asheville, NC, requiring at least 2 years of recent MedSurg, telemetry, and step-down experience with active BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Hospital-based PCU serving as a Clinical Decision / Direct Admit Unit focused on ED decompression and enhanced patient throughput
• 40-bed unit (D2) with a patient ratio of 1:5 for step-down and 1:6 for med-surg (1:5 combined) on both day and night shifts
• Wide variety of diagnoses requiring a well-rounded clinical background
• Unit staffing typically includes a free charge nurse and 1–2 CNAs based on volume
• Minimal bedside procedures performed on the unit
• Baxter IV pumps used on the unit
• Documentation via Cerner
• Day shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
• Every other weekend required; no on-call responsibilities
• Holiday coverage required
• Floating to other units within skill set is expected

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment)
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in MedSurg, telemetry (remote), and step-down/PCU nursing
• US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
• One professional reference required (candidates from Florida or Missouri must provide two references)
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• Primary responsibilities include completing admission assessments, medication reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders for patients admitted from the ED
• Unit's goal is to reduce overall length of stay and enhance the patient and family experience through a refined clinical decision process
• Charge nurse experience is appreciated, and willingness to take on that role is a plus
• Additional float opportunities exist in the CMU Telemetry Unit (centrally located telemetry oversight) and as an ED Transport Nurse (assisting with moving higher-acuity patients from the ED to inpatient units)
• Many travel nurses on this unit have requested extensions, with some staying for several years
• Scrubs must be navy blue, white, or a combination of the two — no t-shirts; appropriate navy or white jacket/sweater permitted
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
• Additional certifications beyond BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS are preferred but not required
