Duties

Clinical Responsibilities: a. Provides a full range of psychiatric services. Diagnoses mental disorders particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients. b. Provides comprehensive interventions. c. Provides consultation to professional staff within the other specialty programs in the Mental Health Service. d. Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, including prompt completion of clinical reminders. e. Functions independently as a member of the VA ECHCS Medical Staff, with full clinical privileges. Assumes complete professional responsibility for their clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation. f. Provides outreach services to veterans and family members. g. For Virtual Staff Psychiatrists: Conducts telework appointments either to a clinic {i.e., telehealth) or to the patient's device {i.e., VA Video Connect). Appropriate protocols will be followed, and documentation will be completed. Other Duties: Other requirements that are still considered clinical time {where applicable and with various accommodations in caseload volume): a. Assists the program director or coordinator in the design, development, and implementation of clinical programs for a team of treatment providers when called upon to do so and with an attendant reduction in caseload (where applicable). b. Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment team. c. Assists the program director or coordinator in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program. d. Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs to effectively coordinate services. e. Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients. f. Complies with CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (i.e., entering diagnostic and procedure codes). g. Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Service Line Director (or designee) and facility Director. h. Attends regular team staff meetings, Mental Health staff meetings, and complies with service peer review procedures. i. Maintains and up to date telework agreement (if applicable). j. Other duties as assigned. Team and Training (also considered clinical time): a. Provides clinical supervision and instruction for psychiatry residents, performs required calls as appropriate
