Surgical Technician

Function as an integral part of the perioperative team as the first, second, or assisting surgical technician or second circulator under the direct supervision of the registered nurse Apply asepsis principles to maintain a sterile environment Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients according to department policies and procedures Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient and cost-effective department Collect data on assigned patients as directed by the RN and unit-based performance standards Participate in Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement and Infection Control Committees as needed Assist with supply ordering and inventory control Collaborate with surgeons and the OR team to ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready for procedures Use preference cards to ensure specialized supplies are available Assist with cleaning and sterilization of instruments Properly dispose of trash and sharps Participate in Time Out Assist with room turnover Stock supplies and communicate with the Nurse Manager regarding needed supplies and instruments Requirements Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days Ability to apply asepsis principles and maintain a sterile environment Competency in select technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and appropriate knowledge base Ability to provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients Ability to work Monday-Friday, four 9-hour shifts per week Availability for rotating call weekends every 3-4 nights Availability for rotating holiday call Availability for rotating evening call every 3-4 nights Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in surgical technology, including asepsis principles and age-specific care for obstetrical patients. Proficient in inventory control, collaboration with surgical teams, and maintaining a sterile environment.
