Registered Nurse (RN)

This position is located in a locked incarcerated unit and candidates must be comfortable providing care within a correctional setting. Registered Nurses will be required to float to other Medical/Surgical and Telemetry units, including forensics, inpatient units, and potentially intensive care units (ICU).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to a diverse patient population, including those who are underserved, uninsured, underinsured, and insured.
• Administer treatments and medications as prescribed, including chemotherapy.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and interpret dysrhythmias, managing any detected issues appropriately.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy.
• Participate in holiday rotations, working a total of three out of six designated holidays.
• Perform additional duties as required by the unit's operational needs.

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee or compact multi-state license.
• Minimum of one year of nursing experience required.
• Current certifications including BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale, and CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior accepted in lieu of CPI).
• Experience with charting systems, specifically Cerner, is required.
• Previous charge experience is preferred.

Unit Details

The unit consists of 16 beds and serves a unique population that requires specialized care. The daily census and patient ratios will be dynamic, reflecting the needs of the unit. Nurses should be prepared to cover weekends, with a requirement of six shifts every six weeks.

Compliance and Policies

• All contracts starting in September must extend into the following year to ensure holiday coverage.
• HealthStream training modules must be completed prior to the start of the position.
• Strict no-call policy enforced; attendance at scheduled shifts is mandatory.
