Obstetrics & Gynecology Physician

Position: Locum OB Hospitalist

Location: Corpus Christi, Texas

Start Date: September 14, 2026

Shift Type: 24-hour shifts

Shift Hours: 8:00 AM-8:00 AM

Urgent Dates: September 14 and September 18

Ongoing Need: Providers with availability to work several shifts each month

Annual Birth Volume: Nearly 4,000 births

Maternal Level: IV

NICU Level: III

EMR: Meditech

Urgent Coverage Needed:

September 14: 24-hour shift, 8:00 AM-8:00 AM

September 18: 24-hour shift, 8:00 AM-8:00 AM

Ongoing: Several shifts per month

Minimum OB Experience: 5 years required

Required Clinical Experience:

• Extensive obstetric experience
• Experience managing unassigned OB patients
• Experience with high-risk and emergent obstetric cases
• Experience with TOLAC management
• Experience with MFM patients
• Experience with cesarean deliveries and surgical assists
• Fetal heart monitoring proficiency

OBED and Unassigned Patients

• Work in the OBED
• Take unassigned patients
• Evaluate unassigned obstetrical and gynecology patients
• Manage unassigned obstetrical patients from admission through discharge
• Conduct H&P examinations on all unassigned admitted patients
• Provide obstetric consultation throughout the hospital
• Provide consultation for unassigned gynecology patients

Labor and Delivery

• Maintain awareness of patients throughout L&D, antepartum, postpartum, and OBED
• Respond to obstetric emergencies
• Deliver patients when the assigned physician cannot arrive in time
• Manage emergent situations until the assigned physician assumes care
• Manage patients requiring TOLAC
• Assist with complicated deliveries
• Provide First Assist on cesarean sections when safely available

High-Risk / Critical Care

• Assume care and manage MFM patients as clinically indicated
• Respond to massive transfusion protocol activations, including unresolved hemorrhage
• Coordinate transport of acute or critically ill OB/GYN patients when necessary
• Coordinate care for patients transferred to or from other facilities

Gynecology

• Consult on unassigned gynecology patients
• Provide surgical management of unassigned gynecology patients
• Assist with scheduling and coordination of C-sections and other OB/GYN procedures

Additional Responsibilities

• Provide surgical assistance to OB/GYN physicians
• Partner with nursing staff to maintain OBED efficiency
• Document timely in Meditech
• Participate in quality improvement activities
• Participate in drills and morbidity/mortality reviews
• Support accreditation and regulatory compliance
• Provide patient and family support
• Coordinate care with local FAQH centers as applicable
• Evaluate treatment involving buprenorphine for obstetrical inpatients with opioid use disorder and coordinate care with local providers as appropriate

Fetal Heart Monitoring: Required proficiency

NCC Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification: Preferred

TOLAC: Experience required

MFM: Must be willing and able to manage MFM patients
