This phlebotomist role focuses on high-volume blood collection, specimen processing, and packaging within outpatient clinic settings in the Farmington Hills area. You will perform frequent blood draws, coordinate closely with clinic staff, and ensure accurate and timely preparation and shipment of specimens to the designated medical testing facility. This position offers strong hands-on phlebotomy experience, with opportunities to work in both stationary and float assignments.

Responsibilities

• Perform approximately 2530 blood draws per day using venipuncture techniques, ensuring accurate and efficient specimen collection.
• Draw, label, and handle blood specimens in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
• Process collected specimens, including proper handling, preparation, and documentation prior to packaging.
• Package specimens correctly for transport, ensuring all samples are secure, properly labeled, and ready for shipment to the medical testing site in the Novi/Farmington area.
• Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule patient blood draws.
• Coordinate pick-ups and shipping of collected specimens, ensuring timely transfer to the testing facility.
• Follow the correct order of draw and apply knowledge of BD Vacutainer tube colors for multiple tube collections.
• Maintain accurate records of specimens collected, processed, and shipped.
• Adhere to all clinic, laboratory, and safety protocols while working in both stationary and offsite locations.
• Collaborate effectively with onsite and offsite team members, adapting to varying team sizes and clinic environments.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant with responsibilities that include drawing, processing, and packaging blood samples.
• Documented experience performing 200 or more solo blood draws.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy and venipuncture techniques for outpatient settings.
• Demonstrated ability to perform accurate blood draws, specimen collection, and specimen processing.
• Strong knowledge of the correct order of draw for blood collection.
• Ability to identify and correctly use BD Vacutainer tube colors for multiple tube collections.
• Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification or certificate.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with clinic staff regarding scheduling and logistics.
• Reliability and availability to work without planned time off in the immediate term, aligning with scheduling needs.

Work Environment

This role is based at a clinic location on Northwestern Highway in Farmington Hills, Michigan, with standard hours of Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You will work in outpatient clinical settings, handling blood collection, specimen processing, and packaging for shipment to a nearby medical testing facility. The onsite team in Farmington typically includes about 15 people, while offsite locations may have between 0 and 3 team members, so you may work independently or as part of a small team depending on the assignment. The environment emphasizes accurate, efficient, and safe specimen handling. Team members wear navy blue scrubs as the standard dress code. The position offers both stationary and float opportunities, providing a mix of consistent and varied clinic settings, and includes the potential for raises based on tenure and performance.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Farmington Hills, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
