Position Summary

The Director of Housekeeping is responsible for the overall management, leadership, and performance of the Housekeeping Department within a full-service hotel. This position ensures the highest standards of cleanliness, appearance, guest satisfaction, safety, and operational efficiency are consistently maintained throughout all guest rooms, public areas, meeting spaces, back-of-house areas, and laundry operations.

The Director of Housekeeping provides strategic leadership to housekeeping managers, supervisors, room attendants, housepersons, public area attendants, and laundry associates while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and exceptional guest service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Management

• Direct and oversee all housekeeping and laundry operations.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop housekeeping team members and leaders.
• Create staffing schedules based on occupancy forecasts and business demands.
• Establish productivity standards are properly managed.
• Maintain a positive work environment focused on associate engagement and retention.
• Participate as a member of the hotel's executive leadership team.

Guest Room Operations

• Ensure guest rooms consistently meet brand standards and cleanliness expectations.
• Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, suites, corridors, and service areas.
• Monitor room readiness and coordinate closely with Front Office regarding arrivals, departures, VIPs, and group business.
• Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns and service recovery situations.
• Develop action plans to improve guest satisfaction scores and cleanliness ratings.

Public Areas & Meeting Space Oversight

• Ensure all public spaces, meeting rooms, banquet facilities, restrooms, fitness center, pool area, and back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards.
• Coordinate special cleaning projects and deep-cleaning schedules.
• Partner with Banquets and Event Operations to ensure meeting spaces are guest-ready at all times.

Inventory & Asset Protection

• Oversee linen, terry, uniform, and supply inventories.
• Monitor usage and replacement schedules to control expenses.
• Coordinate with Engineering regarding preventive maintenance issues identified during inspections.
• Ensure guestrooms and public areas remain in excellent physical condition.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of management experience overseeing housekeeping operations in a full-service hotel with meeting space, food and beverage outlets, and multiple guest service areas .
• Demonstrated experience managing large teams, scheduling, and quality assurance programs.
• Strong understanding of hotel operations, guest satisfaction initiatives, and brand standards.
• Proficiency with hotel property management systems.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and evenings as business demands require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Marriott, or other major full-service hotel brands.
• Multi-outlet or convention hotel experience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to inspect guestrooms, public areas, and operational spaces throughout the property.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to push, pull, bend, reach, and perform routine property inspections.
