Geotechnical Engineer

Job Description AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking a mid-career Geotechnical Engineer to support water, wastewater treatment, flood protection, and associated projects in our Providence, RI office. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within an established national group, lead junior-level engineers under the guidance of Registered Professional Engineers, and develop a range of career opportunities. Responsibilities Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out tasks associated with geotechnical exploration for water and wastewater treatment facilities. Assess geotechnical conditions and develop technical design for geotechnical engineering solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities. Exercise engineering judgment in the development of geotechnical exploration plans, selection of soil improvement techniques, and foundation support systems. Provide direct responsibility, charge, guidance, and mentorship to junior‑level geotechnical engineers. Serve as technical lead for the Geotechnical Engineering department under guidance of the Geotechnical Engineering Department Head. Provide geotechnical guidance for existing facilities and other business lines as required. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field + 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Registration as a Professional Engineer in a U.S. jurisdiction with the ability to obtain licensure via comity in Rhode Island within twelve (12) months. A valid U.S. Driver’s License is required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites, and the selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical Engineering focus or other related field. 5+ years of demonstrated work experience performing geotechnical exploration. Understanding of analysis and design. Strong knowledge of providing guidance for the built environment. Additional Information Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
