Principal Mechanical Engineer

Abbott seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead design and development of medical devices at its Alameda, California facility. The role requires broad expertise in mechanical engineering, regulatory compliance, and new product development, with responsibility for complex projects and technical mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Design, verify and validate new mechanical products compliant with medical regulatory standards
• Lead technical investigations of manufacturing issues and develop solutions
• Develop project plans, specifications, FMEAs, DOEs, and verification protocols
• Manage resources, budgets, schedules and oversee complex engineering projects
• Mentor mechanical engineering team and provide technical guidance on design reviews

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent scientific discipline
• Minimum 10 years of related engineering experience
• Strong mechanical engineering expertise with excellent written and verbal communication
• Extensive knowledge of medical device regulations (ISO 15197, ISO 13485, FDA guidelines)
• Deep understanding of medical device manufacturing processes and materials
• Experience with design control procedures and product development methodologies
• Cross-functional team collaboration and project management skills

Compensation: $130,700–$261,300 base
