The Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center is seeking a compassionate, patient-centered Community Living Center (CLC) Staff Physician to join our Geriatrics and Extended Care Service Line in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive primary and longitudinal care to Veterans residing in our Community Living Center, which includes Secured Dementia Care, Long-Term Care, and Short-Stay Rehabilitation neighborhoods. This is a meaningful opportunity to care for Veterans with complex medical needs while working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

Position Highlights

• Full-time, permanent physician position with the Veterans Health Administration.

• Standard schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with rotating on-call responsibilities.

• No required travel, telework, or remote work.

• Work alongside an interdisciplinary team dedicated to exceptional Veteran-centered care.

• Care for a diverse population of Veterans with complex chronic illness, dementia, mental health conditions, rehabilitation needs, and end-of-life care needs.

• No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.

Responsibilities

The CLC Staff Physician will:

• Provide direct medical care to Veterans in secured dementia care, long-term care, and rehabilitation settings.

• Complete and document admission and readmission histories, physical examinations, assessments, and treatment plans within 24 hours of admission.

• Perform medication reconciliation for all new admissions and readmissions.

• Write weekly progress notes for short-stay and rehabilitation patients and monthly progress notes for long-term care residents.

• Complete quarterly and annual medical review documentation.

• Collaborate closely with nursing, pharmacy, rehabilitation, social work, mental health, and other interdisciplinary care team members.

• Review and co-sign applicable interprofessional and subspecialty consultation notes.

• Review and sign 30-day pharmacy review notes.

• Participate in rotating on-call coverage.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.

• Completion of an accredited residency training program or qualifying equivalent experience consistent with VA physician qualification standards.

• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.

• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

• Board certification is preferred.

Preferred experience includes:

• Geriatrics.

• Rehabilitation medicine.

• Long-term care or skilled nursing facility care.

• Dementia care.

• Management of medically complex patients and interdisciplinary care planning.

U.S. citizenship is preferred; non-citizens may be considered when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy.
