Associate Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear Power Location: Overland Park, KS; Ann Arbor, MI; Cary, NC; Chattanooga, TN; Atlanta, GA Company: Black & Veatch Family of Companies The Opportunity Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated person to function as a Midlevel Mechanical Engineer in the design of mechanical systems supporting Nuclear Power Generation. Key Responsibilities Work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad. Under general supervision, perform all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis for assigned systems. Acquire knowledge of both Black & Veatch and industry standards and implement them in project development. Prepare moderately complex engineering deliverables, conduct research, and develop project design recommendations. Continuously learn and remain current on departmental design guides, standards, codes and B&V policies. Develop and apply knowledge independently while complying with B&V quality program. Prepare complex engineering deliverables, calculations, and recommendations for equipment and materials selection. Coordinate with project leadership and other teams on less complex projects, and interact with other disciplines on details of design work. Understand external client interests and needs of internal clients, support business development or pursuit activities. Share current knowledge of latest technology and processes, mentor entry‑level professionals and interns. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Instrument and/or Service Air Systems. Experience with DeMineralized (DM) water supply and makeup systems. Experience with Service and potable water supply systems. Experience with Natural, hydrogen, and nitrogen gas supply systems. Experience with Closed cycle cooling water system. Experience with High Pressure / Intermediate Pressure / Low / Auxiliary Steam systems. Experience with Feedwater and condensate systems. Experience with CO2 supply system. Experience with calculations: pipe sizing, pipe thickness, pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat exchanger sizing, tank sizing, etc. Experience with Air, gas, water & steam systems, typical systems for design & engineering work. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent professional experience. Minimum 5 years related work experience. Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records). Active engineering registration or licensure to support Engineer of Record requirements where applicable. Must satisfy citizenship requirements outlined in 10 CFR 810. Certifications Active engineering registration or licensure to support Engineer of Record requirements. Work Environment / Physical Demands Typical office environment with prolonged sitting and computer use; ability to maintain focus and attention to detail. Physical tasks during site visits may include crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods.
