Job Title: Critical Care Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant Location: Vanderbilt Tullahoma‑Harton Hospital (VTHH) and Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital (VBCH) – Nashville, Tennessee. Hours: 3 shifts per week (days/night), 13‑hour shifts; initial coverage of both ICUs with home‑based work at VTHH. Relocation available for candidates >100miles. Job Summary The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health‑care team. The NP/PA provides advanced clinical care in critical‑care settings (surgical and medical ICUs), demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, and communication skills, and manages documentation and professional development. Key Responsibilities Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system‑focused, or symptom‑specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care. Provides primary, acute and complex care, manages patient overall care and identifies expected outcomes for diagnoses. Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures when indicated. Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions. Prescribes therapeutic interventions—pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic and surgical—to achieve expected outcomes. Utilizes evidence‑based protocols in planning and implementing care. Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations. Provides specialty‑specific consultation within scope of practice. Facilitates patient transition between and within health care settings (admitting, transferring, discharging). Interpersonal and Communication Skills (Advanced): Establishes and maintains professional relationships with patients, families, and team members; communicates effectively orally and in writing. Patient and Family Centered Care (Advanced): Provides compassionate, effective care, promotes health, prevention, treatment and end‑of‑life support, incorporates cultural and spiritual preferences, and negotiates patient‑partnered care plans. Clinical Knowledge and Practice (Advanced): Applies biomedical and social science knowledge, stays current with evidence‑based practice, and educates patients, families, and staff. Health Systems and Policy Management (Advanced): Demonstrates proficiency in continuous professional development and participates in organizations influencing advanced practice. Position Qualifications Licensure: Licensed Nurse Practitioner (TN) or Physician Assistant; national certification in identified area of clinical practice. Experience: Prior APP or ICU experience preferable; less than 1 year required for this position. Education: Master’s degree in Nursing or related field. Other: Ability to work independently, transition between teams, maintain documentation, and participate in professional development activities.
