About the Opportunity: Under the general supervision of the Deputy Chief of Administration, the Research Data Specialist II (RDS II) will be responsible to develop and utilize research methodology and techniques in areas where precedents are lacking, or a sparse body of knowledge or experience in the area exists. The incumbent works independently with primary responsibility for a major project or activity fire and rescue related as assigned. The incumbent designs and develops data schemas and statistics tailored to the unique demands of the emergency management context of Fire and Rescue. Desirable Qualifications: In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate: Experience identifying, collecting, storing, and manipulating data and economic forecasts related to energy demand, technology, transportation, or other economic indicators. Effective communication with non-technical teammates in a multi-disciplinary environment. Experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders on complex research products, methodology, and/or reports. Ability to query, mine, analyze, and manipulate data. Working Conditions: In Office: This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position. Conflict of Interest (COI): This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
