Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, Position Description Number D2431000 and D2431000B and is part of the KS 190 Air Refueling Wing, National Guard. Major Duties As a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC WG-5803-08/10, you will repair, adjust, overhaul, perform major repairs, and maintenance on military and commercial designed heavy mobile equipment and special purpose vehicles. Perform initial and in-process inspections, minor body work, and conduct mechanical diagnostics to localize defects and determine causes of malfunction. Conduct preventive maintenance, including lubrication, adjustments, and minor part replacements, to extend equipment life and reduce downtime. Inspect repairs, overhauls and tests major systems including gasoline, diesel, electric powered hybrid, multi-fuel, turbine, and other types of internal combustion engines, which may be turbo-charged or blower assisted, automatic or manual transmissions, including those with power take offs, cross-drive transmissions, hydraulic, electric, pneumatic systems and controls, fluid pumping systems, turrets, winches and four wheel steering systems. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5 day workweek, then a 4 day workweek ( 8 nine-hour days and 1 eight-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80 hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance within one year of appointment. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Must be able to obtain and maintain a state driver's license. Qualifications Military Grades: E3 through E5 Desired Military Assignments: 2T3X1 or 2T3X7 or must be willing and able to cross train. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to make repairs or the ability to assist with repairs that can be accomplished by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG 08- Musthave experience equivalent to the next lower level with the use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and operating vehicles to perform and check work to complete repairs safely and efficiently. Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with safety and technical standards. SPECIALIZED EXPEREINCE WG 10 - Must have experience equivalent to the next lower level diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on heavy mobile vehicles, equipment and systems. Physical Effort: Work is performed in tiring positions, at times, for extended periods of time, requiring frequent bending, reaching and crouching. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling and turning while positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Often lifts heavier items with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices such as jacks, hoists and forklifts. Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Subject to a relatively constant climatic work environment while in the shop. Subject to temperature extremes such as rain, snow, and wet and icy areas, while working outside. There is exposure to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat and fumes from working both inside and outside. Subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, bruises and injuries from falls while positioning and moving equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and use of safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard toed shoes, gloves and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn for long periods of time. This s an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until filled.
