Competitive hourly rate plus incentive Uniforms provided Annual boot allowance Annual tool allowance Annual prescription safety eye‑wear allowance PTO 401K with a company match Health, dental, vision benefits Summary The Diesel Technician position is responsible for the inspection, service, repair and preventative maintenance of the various types of ATS tractors by using ATS and industry standard methods and criteria to ensure the tractor is safe to be on the road. Education And Experience Level 3 Two‑year AAS degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or at least one year of equivalent experience in a related field (e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair). Must be DOT certified or able to obtain certification within 90 days. Must have brake certification or be able to obtain it within 90 days. Must have OSHA tire training or be able to obtain it within a year. Must have forklift certification or be able to obtain it within 90 days. Must be able to operate all related shop equipment. Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required. Effective communication skills (written, listening, verbal). Good decision‑making, problem‑solving, attention to detail and customer service skills (internal/external). Basic electrical troubleshooting skills. Ability to read installation manuals and understand manufacturer training. Level 2 At least five years of equivalent experience in a related field. ASE certifications T4 & T8 required within one year of hire date. Must be DOT certified. Must be able to MIG weld. Intermediate electrical diagnostic skills. Familiar with all diagnostic software programs. Level 1 Minimum of seven years of equivalent experience in a related field. ASE certifications Master T2–T8 required within one year of hire date. Advanced electrical diagnostic skills. Proficient with all diagnostic software programs. Experience with warranty submission. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Perform inspections on company tractors using ATS, DOT, and OSHA guidelines to ensure they operate safely. Complete DOT inspections on outgoing trucks to verify all necessary repairs have been made. Perform repairs following ATS procedures within standard job times to get drivers back on the road quickly. Perform all necessary/scheduled preventative maintenance services (e.g., oil, grease, air filters, cooling system nitrate, water filters). Diagnose and repair electronic control engines. Ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed; wear all required PPE at all times. Record all parts and repair work into the computer system to track cost. Meet productivity standards. Participate in online OEM training such as After Market Resource (ARC) from Freightliner and hands‑on training provided by OEM and factory. Provide basic tools; ATS will supply specialty tools. Meet all ATS and department objectives and deadlines. Follow all ATS and department policies and procedures. Work within the budget set for the department. Charge out all parts used on trucks and trailers. Support ATS’ culture by consistently performing in accordance with company values and core competencies. Required to work occasional overtime, Saturdays, and other shift vacancies as needed. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Physical Demands Constantly positioning self under, on top of, or in awkward positions to work on equipment. Frequently moving to obtain tools, supplies, parts and to inspect equipment. Constantly using hand tools and power hand tools to repair equipment, manipulate parts into position or enter data into a computer. Constantly inspecting and assessing equipment to determine whether to replace or repair and the best approach to replace/repair. Intermittently communicating with others regarding work questions, processes, procedures and timelines. Must be able to move/position parts and tools: 1–10 lbs. frequently; 11–25 lbs. frequently; 25–50 lbs. occasionally; >50 lbs. occasionally. Exposure To Loud noises constantly requiring hearing protection. Temperature extremes intermittently due to outside weather conditions. Dirt, dust, grease, chemicals and odors constantly. Situations requiring eye protection and steel‑toed boots and, when welding, an approved shield. Supervisory Responsibility None Compensation & Benefits The anticipated hourly pay range is $24.00–$40.00 plus $4.00 per hour 2nd shift differential. The position may be eligible for a $2,000 sign‑on bonus, subject to eligibility requirements. Hourly pay is determined by experience, education, certifications and location. Employees may also be eligible for performance‑based incentives, which can vary depending on individual and/or company performance.
