Chief Risk Officer

Chief Risk Officer Remote (U.S.) | Full-time | Reports to the CEO About the opportunity A new commercial bank in the pre-opening stage is assembling its founding leadership team ahead of FDIC approval. We are looking for a Chief Risk Officer to design and lead the bank's enterprise risk management framework from the ground up. This is a rare chance to join at the foundation and help shape a new American banking institution. What you'll do - Play a lead role in the FDIC application process, including the risk sections of the business plan and supporting documentation - Build the bank's enterprise risk management framework across credit, market, operational, liquidity, interest rate, and reputational risk - Set risk appetite, tolerance thresholds, and key risk indicators aligned to the bank's strategy and regulatory expectations - Provide independent oversight of credit risk, including concentration risk and the allowance for credit losses (CECL) - Develop the interest rate risk, asset liability management, and liquidity risk programs, including contingency funding plans and stress testing - Lead the operational risk program, including third-party and vendor risk, business continuity, and disaster recovery - Work with the Compliance Leader to ensure adherence to banking regulations, including BSA/AML, GLBA, CRA, Reg B, and Reg E - Chair the management Risk Committee and report regularly to the CEO and the Board - Build and mentor a high-performing risk team as the bank grows - Build and maintain relationships with the FDIC and other regulators on risk matters What we're looking for - Senior risk leadership experience (CRO or equivalent) at a bank or regulated financial institution - Deep knowledge of bank regulatory frameworks (FDIC, OCC, Federal Reserve) - Experience building or scaling risk programs in a newly formed or high-growth bank or fintech; bank formation experience is a plus - Strong credit, liquidity, and interest rate risk expertise - Ability to partner with the CEO, Board, regulators, and cross-functional leaders Why join Build a bank's risk culture and governance from day one, with direct influence on the application, the regulators' view of the institution, and the leadership team around you.
