This is accomplished through traditional and progressive law enforcement practices and strong community partnership. Job Summary This position is an entry level position as a police officer cadet. This position, when hired, will employ the candidate while attending the Georgia Police Officer Training and Standards Basic Mandate course to become a certified police officer. Upon the successful completion of the Basic Mandate Course, the candidate will then be placed in the AUPD Field Training Officer program. Upon successful completion of both the Basic Mandate and AUPD's Field Training Officer program, the candidate will be eligible to move to Police Officer II. Responsibilities The duties include, but are not limited to: Completion of the Georgia Police Officers Standards and Training Basic Mandate course for Police Officers (approximately 6 months) Completion of the Augusta University Field Training Officer program (approximately 13 weeks) Under the supervision of a Field Trainer, must be able to: Patrol a designated area of the University projecting a community oriented policing mindset, preserve law and order, be alert for and control commission of crimes, answer calls to include, but not limited to trespassing, thefts, fire and burglar alarms, traffic accidents, and enforce traffic regulations Prepare required documents and reports Effect arrests and restrain persons consistent with the tenants of probable cause and reasonable suspicion Conduct investigations, collect and identify evidence, question principals and witnesses, testify in court when subpoenaed. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization Must be 18 years of age Must possess good moral and ethical character Must be able to obtain certification through the POST Academy Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities ABILITIES Ability to maintain confidentiality Detail-oriented Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases Shift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Rotating Pay Band: B8 Salary: $21.83/hourly Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position Recruitment Period: 3/13/26 - Until Filled Augusta University offers a variety of benefits to full-time benefits-eligible employees and some of our half-time (or more) employees. Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation. Credit check/financial history consistent with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) (15 USC § 1681 et seq.) 5. Local, state, and federal criminal history record check 6. Relevant national and state decertification records, if available 7. Any relevant information in the National Law Enforcement Accountability Database 8. Voice stress analyzer (CVSA) examination 9. Medical examination, drug screen, and psychological examination 10. Determination of employment eligibility, including U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) 11. Successfully complete POST certification requirements for a sworn police officer in the State of Georgia 12. Perform Mandatory reporting and response duties as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) pursuant to the Clery Act. Credit Check This position will require the acquisition of a P-Card and/or handle cash, credit or other sensitive information and will require a satisfactory Consumer Credit check as a condition of employment. Driver's License Statement The Human Resources Division will request a driver's history report for the identified top candidate(s) for this position. We will initiate this through our Background Check Vendor; this report will come from the Department of Motor Vehicles. The selected candidate must have a valid driver's license.
