Lab Technician

Position Description At Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned research institution, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our AAALAC-accredited animal facility. This role plays a vital part in supporting the daily care and well-being of research animals-including mice, rats, and frogs-while ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare. You will contribute directly to the smooth operation of the facility and to scientific research that drives meaningful discoveries. Position Responsibilities Demonstrate proficiency and be available to perform all duties required for the Cage Washer position. Examine animals for signs of illness and administer treatments according to instructions. Transfer animals between cages and tanks as needed. Monitor controls regulating temperature and humidity in animal quarters. Record data according to instructions, including genealogy, diet, weight, medications, and food intake. Provide general animal nursing and laboratory assistance to scientific staff and the Animal Facility Manager. Feed, water, and care for research animals according to established schedules. Assist Animal Facility Supervisors with transgenic rodent colony management, including modified barrier housing, colony health management, and maintenance of mouse lines. Provide pre- and post-operative care to animals, maintain health records, and perform minor treatments as necessary. Work occasional weekends and holidays as required. Position Requirements Education: Associate's degree in a scientific discipline. Experience: Six months of relevant work experience preferred but not required. Other: ALAT certification preferred but not required. Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain focus on routine tasks. Skilled in operating cage washers, autoclaves, and other disinfecting/sterilizing equipment. Comfortable working with or around laboratory animals. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control. Effective time management skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good-faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
