Senior Materials EngineerThe Process Development & Efficiency Section of the Materials and Process Engineering Department, is looking for a Materials Engineer to join our team in Andover, MA. This role is to support program process development, special process support, and production activities. A qualified candidate will have experience in evaluating materials and processes used within a product design and/or manufacturing. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to support material selections during design, development, and manufacturing of hardware, and support special process activities associated with a wide range of product applications. The role will involve evaluation of a variety of materials and validation and verification that materials and processes used on product to meet design and program requirements. Tasks will require critical thinking to solve challenging problems and careful attention to detail on procedures and documentation of results. Collaboration with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. A candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements. Travel, both domestic and international, expected to be up to approximately 25% of the time.What You Will DoEvaluation of materials and processes based on conformance to specifications and design and performance requirementsSupporting product production and supplier support activitiesProviding evaluation and resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processesParticipate in analysis and documentation of technical positions for alternate materials, obsolescence, and failure analysisSupport special processes in one or more of the following areas: Painting, Plating, Welding, Brazing, Heat Treating, Bonding/adhesives, Polymers and Plastics, Non-Destructive Testing, Additive ManufacturingQualifications You Must HaveTypically requires A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experienceExperience in material qualification, analysis, testing, design or development (material selections)Experience in metal alloy systems or organic and inorganic coatings or corrosion control and protection, or additive manufacturing.Qualifications We PreferBachelor's Degree in Materials Science and EngineeringExperience with corrosion fundamentals and mitigation techniquesExperience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense IndustryExperience working with engineering drawingsExperience working with and evaluation of suppliers performing special manufacturing processesExperience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniquesExperience related to Material Review Boards, Material and Process Change Boards, Risk Boards, and Engineering Review BoardsExperience with project milestones such as preliminary design reviews and critical design reviewsAbility to write concise technical reports summarizing analysesDemonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific based projects including failure analysis and obsolescence investigationsProficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skillsABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.What We Offer:Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world.
