MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Must be at least 18 years of ageMust have no criminal record or criminal charges pendingMust have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with liability insuranceMust have or be willing to obtain First Aide/CPR certificationMust have a clear TB and physical examination before first day of employmentMust have some basic understanding or experience in conducting minor maintenance and repair work as well as general custodial workPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Have a High School DiplomaBe Bilingual – able or willing to learn to speak, read and write English and SpanishBe a local resident of Cameron or Willacy CountyBe a person sensitive to the needs of the poor and disadvantagedGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedureClean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers, and refill restroom dispensersAssist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpetsUse and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, buffers, vacuums, brooms, mops and any other equipmentLock and unlock assigned buildings: secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lightsFollow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and suppliesPerform cleaning and related activities such as removing debris from sidewalks and stairsMove furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basisWash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds. Launder cleaning rags and dust mopsMaintains green areas mowed and well groomedSupports the efforts of Head Start families in the enhancement of their children's healthy wellbeing and academic successPerforms any other duties assigned by supervisor relative to program operationsWorks on weekends, holidays, and/or evenings on especial assigned projects and/or tasks on request of the Executive/Head Start DirectorPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Averages four hours of standing, walking, lifting, and operating machinery in a usual workdayRequires employee to occasionally crawl and twist in performing dutiesNeeds to carry up to 50 pounds, occasionallyUses lower extremities frequently in simple/firm movement and balancingMaintains head/neck continuously in flexing movements and occasionally in static position & rotational/extension movementsNeeds appropriate or corrected vision, requires the ability to judge distance and space relationships, uses peripheral vision while eyes are fixed, uses eye adjustment in doing near point work, and requires the ability to identify and distinguish colorsDoes frequent speaking/hearing tasks with staff, co-workers, parents and supervisorsPerforms work area surveys to prevent injuries or accidentsExposure to indifferent outdoor weather conditions (cold, heat, sun, rain etc.)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Accepts responsibility for the direction, control, and/or planning of job related activitiesCommunicates and works effectively with parents, community, staff and immediate supervisorWorks on repetitive duties according to set procedures with precision and thoroughnessPerforms a variety of duties often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composureMaintains confidentiality and avoids gossipWorks in stressful situationsMaintains equipment in good working orderPractices safety by: Complying with safety rulesMaintaining a clean and safe working environmentUsing safety equipment (support belts, goggles, etc.)Using proper climbing equipment
