Occupational Health Nurse - RN, HCW

Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Safety & Security, the Occupational Health Nurse provides professional, comprehensive health, wellness, and safety services to employees in both manufacturing and office environments. This role acts as a trusted resource and advocate for employees and the organisation, supporting holistic health, safety, and wellbeing while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and internal policies.
Responsibilities

General

Ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory occupational health requirements.

Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential medical documentation in line with regulatory and company policies.
Supervise and appropriately delegate tasks to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel where applicable.
Support site leadership with additional nursing-related duties as required.
Identify opportunities for cost control, process improvement, and high-quality employee service.

Clinical Care

ssess, diagnose, plan, treat, evaluate, and follow up on all work-related injuries and illnesses.
Deliver and oversee early symptom intervention and management programmes.
ssess non-work-related health concerns and coordinate care, referrals, absence management, and leave processes as needed.
Collaborate with on-site and off-site healthcare providers, including physical therapists, specialists, and nurse case managers.
Provide emergency care and independent clinical decision-making in accordance with nursing guidelines and standing orders.

Claims Management

ccurately and promptly document work-related injuries and illnesses in internal and external systems.
Serve as the subject matter expert for workers' compensation claims and claim status.
Collaborate with claims adjusters, stakeholders, employees, and treatment providers.
Review claims regularly to ensure accuracy, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
Oversee return-to-work processes, including coordination of modified or accommodated duties.

Medical Surveillance

Oversee and participate in medical surveillance programmes, including hearing conservation, respiratory protection, periodic physicals, powered industrial truck standards, life-saving rules, and other regulatory programmes.
Manage substance-free workplace requirements, including drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-incident, follow-up, periodic, and return-to-work).
Oversee post-offer health assessment programmes.

Wellness & Engagement

Coordinate and support holistic health and wellness initiatives for employees.
ct as a resource for personal wellness needs, including employee assistance programmes and benefit offerings.
Participate in committees and cross-functional groups related to health, safety, disability, and wellbeing.
Collaborate with stakeholders on initiatives requiring medical and occupational health expertise.

Required Qualifications

Registered Nurse with 2-3 years of occupational health experience in an industrial setting, or
Registered Nurse (BSN) with 2-3 years of occupational health experience in an industrial setting.
Commitment to obtain COHN or COHN-S certification within three years of hire (if not already certified).
Current, unrestricted nursing licence in the state or country of employment.
No history of licence lapses, suspensions, or involuntary revocations.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare professionals.
Current certification in urine drug screen and breath alcohol collections.
Strong clinical judgement and ability to work independently.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic medical documentation systems.
Excellent organisational, communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills.
Knowledge of occupational health legal and regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in audiometry.
Certification in spirometry.
