JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB GOAL:

To provide skilled work in the cleaning preparation, building preparation and painting of interior and exterior of buildings, fixtures, and various equipment and miscellaneous items.


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. Minimum three (3) years' experience as a painter. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
3. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the painting trade. Knowledge of the safe use and erection of scaffolding and ladders. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Skilled in the use and care of standard tools and equipment used in the painting trade, as well as those used in preparation work. Ability to work under various conditions to complete necessary jobs. Skilled in mixing and matching colors and selecting proper coatings for various types of materials to be covered. Ability to sand, to repair, to sandblast, to texture drywall, to pressure wash, and to prepare buildings for painting. Ability to paint, using and tolerating various coatings and chemicals. Ability to drive and operate bucket and lift trucks. Ability to keep accurate records. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Apply paint, varnish, lacquer, enamel, or other coatings to interior and exterior of buildings, furniture, and miscellaneous items and equipment with brush or spray gun.
2. Remove old coating by scraping, sand papering, sandblasting, pressure washing, or other approved methods when preparing surface to be repainted.
3. Spread canvas or cloth over surfaces and objects to prevent overspray.
4. Apply waterproof treatment.
5. Paint using stencils and paint lines for traffic and pedestrian guidance on streets, courts, and sidewalks.
6. Repair cracks in buildings and finish using proper materials and methods in preparation of coating. Texture drywall, if required.
7. Clean and maintain equipment.
8. Move furniture in classroom, if required.
9. Follow assigned duties, both oral and written.
10. Maintain accurate records of daily work and time and payroll information.
11. Follow safety standards in performing work and report unsafe conditions to Lead/Manager in a timely manner.
12. May be required to work after hours and/or weekends.
13. Travel outside of Manatee County as required in the performance of duties.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee works both inside and outside. Requires lifting, holding, carrying, sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. The noise level in the work environment can be high at times. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Safety is the highest priority.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
