This position assists the project team in planning, monitoring work activities, and correcting unsafe acts or conditions. The internship program provides the intern and Hensel Phelps with an extended opportunity to evaluate if the fit is right for a long and successful career with Hensel Phelps after graduation.Key ResponsibilitiesGain knowledge of the company Safety & Health ProgramLearn applicable safety and health regulations as well as ways for effective company implementationBecome familiar with the construction processAssist the Project Superintendent in the project site-specific safety orientation and other safety trainingBe visible in the field for safety observationsAssist in the development and review of Activity Hazard AnalysisAssist the project team in conducting project safety auditsAssist the project team with accident and/or near miss investigationsAttend awareness level safety courses and other construction related coursesPerform periodic inspections such as fire extinguishers, ladders, first aid kits, etc.QualificationsPursuing a 4-year degree in Occupational Safety & Health (preferred)Strong communication skillsComputer software - Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel based templates, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite.Physical RequirementsModerate Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type.Climbing – Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps at various heights.Balancing – Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling and to walk, stand or crouch.Stooping – Bending the body downward and forward by the spine at the waist.Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.Occasionally exposed to high and low temperaturesFrequently exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.EducationPursuing a 4-year degree in Occupational Safety & Health (preferred).BenefitsHensel Phelps believes in the importance of taking time to recharge.
