Design Engineer

Location Crane, IN - 300 Highway 361, Crane, IN 47522 Overview The Design Engineer III is responsible for creating and optimizing technical design solutions for complex systems, components, and assemblies in support of NSWC Crane’s mission initiatives. This role involves assessing various design approaches, translating engineering requirements into actionable system configurations, and facilitating design progression through comprehensive analysis, prototyping, and iterative evaluations. The engineer collaborates across structural, mechanical, and electrical/electronic disciplines to deliver designs that are reliable, manufacturable, and meet program goals. Responsibilities Develop and evaluate alternative design layouts, providing recommendations based on technical and programmatic tradeoffs. Utilize engineering principles to generate precise, high-quality design documentation and review-ready deliverables. Support design verification activities and resolve technical challenges encountered during integration and testing phases. Collaborate and communicate effectively with government Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and multidisciplinary engineering teams. Qualifications Must have a BS with 5-7 years; MS with 3-5 years or a PhD with 0-2 years in Engineering or Industrial Design (aligned with eCRAFT Design Engineer III labor category requirements). Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a TS clearance. Proven experience delivering engineering solutions for Department of Defense (DoD) systems, including performing trade studies, refining concepts, and planning for system integration. Strong ability to create design documentation, such as engineering drawings, interface specifications, and technical data packages. Experience working with manufacturing, test, and systems engineering teams to transition designs from concept to production. Proficiency with modern design and simulation tools utilized in mechanical, structural, or electrical/electronic design. Capability to assess the impact of evolving requirements, performance constraints, and cost/schedule adjustments on designs. Benefits This is the projected compensation range for this position.
