Job Title: RN Psych Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatry Duration: 15 weeks Shift: 03:00 PM - 11:30 PM Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Valid RN License Certifications: BLS certified Must-Have: Trained on charge nurse responsibilities Description: This position is for a registered nurse in the psychiatry unit. The unit provides acute inpatient care for patients with psychiatric conditions. The staffing ratio is at least 5 staff for 18-25 patients, ensuring comprehensive care. RN roles include charge nurse, admission nurse, and medication administration. All nursing staff are trained to fulfill various responsibilities within the unit. Patient care includes rounding, vital signs monitoring, and facilitating patient groups. The patient population consists of individuals presenting acute psychosis, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and suicidal or homicidal ideation. There are no emergency department services available on-site, and emergency medical situations require external services. Restraints are seen as a last resort, with an emphasis on de-escalation techniques. Nursing and clinical staff manage all restraint procedures, with security available for support during crises. Training opportunities such as Centralus Naloxone Train the Trainer are provided.
