Civil Structural Engineer (Forensic Engineering)

Our engineers reverse engineer and look for the "why" when things fail. Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities: Conduct field investigations and analyze failures involving all types of structures and construction problems including residential, commercial and industrial properties Determine of the cause, origin, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, construction defects and building system failures including envelope, roof, wall and glazing Assignments may include foundation settlement investigations, structural assessments, site evaluations, sub-surface investigations, vibration analysis, construction site accidents and building egress accident evaluations Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients Responsible for retention and development of client relations Prepare oral and written reports in layman's terms that document causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups Ability to support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies Position Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required, Master's degree a plus Three to five years of civil/structural experience P.E. (Professional Engineer) registration required through testing or ability to obtain within six months Must possess strong writing skills Public speaking experience a plus Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Physical Requirements: Ability to travel 25% of the time Ability to lift 50 lbs Ability and willingness to climb ladders and inspect roofs Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites Ability to work at various heights on structures Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and in confined spaces Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues Ability to drive in all conditions Ability to fly on airplanes Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications SEA places a strong value and priority on diversity, equity and inclusion across the company.
