Correctional Dietitian: Nutritional Care & Reentry Support

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. To be considered for the position, you must meet one of the following requirements for all grade levels: Basic Requirements Education Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. Alternative Education Requirements Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). NOTE: ALL applicants who are registered dietitians (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) MUST electronically upload proof of registration for verification at the time you apply. If you are selected for this position, you will be required to provide an OFFICIAL transcript prior to your first day on duty. NOTE: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Additional Requirements Education for GL-09 and GS-11
GL-09:
Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree. GS-11: Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree. Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Experience for GL-09 and GS-11 At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. Example qualifying experiences: GL-09: Experience in developing and conducting individual and group dietary counseling sessions. Experience processing dietary orders, menu changes and other directives related to patient care. Experience assisting in the development of policies and procedures for administering a nutrition and dietary program.GS-11:
Experience in monitoring the health and dietary needs of patients, recommending adjustments, and disseminating information regarding a medical diet program. Experience in performing nutritional screenings, assessments, developing individual plans and providing dietary counseling. Experience in conducting quality control and quality assurance to verify adherence to food service standards. Experience in developing policies and procedures for administering a nutrition and dietary program. Combination of Education and Experience Applicants may meet the qualifications through a combination of education and experience, provided the combination enables successful performance of the duties of the position. Selective Placement Factor Applicants applying for this position MUST also possess the following Selective Factor. In the event that you do not possess the Selective Factor, you will be found ineligible for the position. Successful completion and maintenance of dietetic registration as defined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities.
