Lead Database Administrator (Cassandra)

Overview We are seeking a full‑time Lead Database Administrator at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will lead administration of technology, researching new technologies and proposing cost‑effective solutions, facilitate team discussions, and contribute innovative suggestions within the discipline. Essential Functions Database upgrade and migrations Monitoring, backup and recovery tools Analyze existing database systems, recommend improvements, tune/ optimize database objects Demonstrate ability to solve moderately complex technical problems independently Implement technology solutions successfully Document and organize work effectively Provide on‑call support Mentor and guide less‑experienced Database Administrators Facilitate team discussions and meetings Lead change initiatives Give and receive constructive feedback, demonstrate professional maturity Resolve conflicts effectively without significant oversight Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business, or a related field AND a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience Experience with at least two of the following database platforms: RDBMS: MySQL, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL Search: OpenSearch/Elasticsearch NoSQL: Cassandra Caching: Valkey/Redis Streaming: Kafka Messaging: RabbitMQ Develop automation scripts using Bash/Python/Ansible for managing database infrastructure Excellent academic background with demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a small team setting Benefits This position is eligible for Garmin's benefit program.
