Description of Work The Facility Compliance Consultant I (Nursing Home Surveyor) conducts regulatory inspections of nursing homes to determine compliance with state and federal requirements. The position performs routine surveys and complaint investigations, documenting findings through formal survey reports and statements of deficiency.

Work is home‑based and requires frequent onsite inspections across assigned counties, with occasional weekend, night‑shift, and overnight travel. The role functions within a compliance‑focused environment that supports consistent monitoring of long‑term care facility performance and adherence to established standards.

This is a home-based position servicing Cabarrus, Davidson, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, and Union counties region. The Nursing Home Surveyor spends an average of three days per week in nursing homes conducting inspections. Occasionally inspections are required on weekends and night shift. Although management attempts to schedule inspections within a region, the consultant needs to expect overnight stays when the nursing home is greater than 60 miles from their home-base.

Key Duties Include: – Conduct onsite inspections of nursing homes during routine surveys and complaint investigations to assess compliance with state and federal requirements.

– Review, verify, and document facility operations and care practices through structured evaluation methods.

– Complete survey reports, including statements of deficiency and written findings related to complaint allegations.

– Apply standardized regulatory criteria during inspections to ensure consistent and accurate assessment outcomes.

– Coordinate inspection schedules across multiple counties and adjust to weekend, night‑shift, or extended‑hour needs when required.

– Conduct onsite work an average of three days per week in nursing homes within the assigned region.

– Document observations and findings promptly to support regulatory determinations and follow‑up processes.

– Communicate inspection expectations and outcomes with facility representatives to support regulatory compliance.

– Travel overnight when inspection sites exceed regional distance guidelines or scheduling requires extended presence.

The Division of Health Service Regulation oversees medical, mental health and adult care facilities, emergency medical services, and local jails. We check to see that people receiving care in these facilities are safe and receive appropriate care. We make certain that medical buildings are built only when there is a need for them. About the Nursing Home Licensure and Certification Section:

The Nursing Home Licensure and Certification Section of DHSR regulates nursing homes in North Carolina, including combination homes that have both adult care and nursing home beds. Those receiving Medicare/Medicaid undergo routine federal inspections every nine to fifteen months, conducted by trained healthcare professionals. Surveys review many areas of care and operations, including resident rights, quality of care, staffing, safety, infection control, and emergency preparedness. Compensation and Benefits:

Generalist :

Bachelor's degree in a health, human service, or educational related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years' experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Social Work:

Master's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and one year experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field OR Bachelor's degree, in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years' experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Dietetics:

Bachelor's degree in nutrition or food service management from an appropriately accredited institution and three years' experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field, eligible for registration from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
