Job Title: Specialized Mental Health RN Location: Miami VA Medical Center: 1201 NW 16th St, Miami, FL 33125 Shift Schedule: PRN; day shift vs night shift Position Description: The Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses in an outpatient setting. In this dynamic and high‑paced environment, the Mental Health RN must balance clinical expertise with strong communication skills to provide patient-centered care while ensuring safety for patients, staff, and visitors. Unit Description: The William “Bill” Kling Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic provides comprehensive consultation, evaluation, and treatment services for a wide spectrum of mental and behavioral health conditions. Their dedicated team supports Veterans facing challenges such as depression, anxiety, personality disorders, substance use and addictive behaviors, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and combat-related stress. The clinic also offers specialized care for emotional and cognitive concerns, including anger management, relationship difficulties, memory issues, intrusive thoughts, and self‑harming or aggressive behaviors. Through compassionate, evidence-based, and Veteran-centered care, the clinic promotes recovery, resilience, and improved quality of life for those who have served. Primary Responsibilities RNs working in the Mental Health Outpatient Clinic shall be responsible for: Patient assessments Interdisciplinary team coordination Electronic medical record documentation Applying de‑escalation techniques and Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMBD) strategies to help people manage their emotions and behavior Providing evidence-based, individual support, such as cognitive behavior therapy principles for depression and anxiety Administration of Long-Acting Injections Minimum Qualifications Current, unrestricted RN license. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) accepted. BLS certification. Three (3) years mental health experience. Ability to function in a high‑paced, stressful environment.
