Physician

Physicians are responsible for providing expert medical care to patients with a range of potential illnesses, injuries or disabilities. Physicians provide high quality, accessible primary healthcare, in an out-patient setting, in Southeast Colorado. Duties include conducting routine physical examinations, making patient referrals medical specialists or counseling services, and prescribing medications based on medical conditions.

Provide medical care at approved High Plains CHC sites and other potential facilities such as long-term or alternate living facilities, jails, in-home, health fairs, and other community sites.

Provide and manage direct patient care including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population, within the physician's scope of practice.

Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.

Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.

Train and supervise medical students, residents, or other healthcare related students as needed.

Direct and coordinate patient care activities of nursing and support staff.

Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

Participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs when applicable.

Participate in the scheduled telephone on-call duties, Saturday and evening office hours, by a rotating provider system.

Manage 2900 patient encounters in the first year and 3200-3400 patient encounters annually thereafter.

Ensure Electronic charting is done in a timely manner.

Attend departmental meetings and training sessions.

Maintain regular and predictable attendance during operating hours to perform the duties of the position, including other duties as assigned.

Practice Highlights: High Plains is an integrated community health care facility that focuses on medical, behavioral health, and dental. We have approximately 110 employees and serve 9,000 unduplicated patients every year. High Plains currently houses 2 Dentists and 1 RDH that focus on all aspects of oral health. High Plains operates out of 8 locations: Main Clinic, Dental Clinic, Pediatric Office, Adult Health Center, LCC Campus Clinic, Wiley Clinic, and Holly Clinic. We also have an administrative location that houses our Finance Services staff.

Community Highlights: Lamar is a rural community in Southeastern Colorado that is the central hub of Prowers, CO. We have approximately 8,000 residents in the community and 14,000 in the county that we reside in. Lamar sits near the Arkansas River and several lakes that enable outdoor activities. Lamar receives approximately 325 days of sunshine every year. We sit in the plains of Colorado and are within hours of the mountains, and Texas, and are only an hour's drive from Kansas and Oklahoma. Ranching and farming are a mainstay in this community that also houses a local community college.

Other: Minimum Qualifications and Experience: Board certified / Board eligible family practice physician (MD/DO). BLS certification or ability to acquire within 30 days after hire. Demonstrated ability to develop priorities and make adjustments to meet patient and clinic needs. Time management and organizational skills to consistently meeting deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse set of staff, patients (customers/clients) and vendors. Demonstrated ability to speak, read, and write professionally, as well as compile, analyze and present information in English. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs and experienced in or ability to learn, Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Preferred Qualifications and Experience: Experience working with diverse and/or underserved populations. Spanish language proficiency. Physical Activities: Extended periods of sitting, typing and computer work, regular standing and walking, and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds in an office / clinical environment. CLASSIFICATION: Exempt $186,764 - $210,110 annually, depending on experience.
