Civil Engineer
Onsite (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia)
Full Time/Direct hire

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Lead civil engineering design activities for transportation, infrastructure, site development, and building-related civil/site projects.
•Prepare, review, and coordinate engineering plans, profiles, details, calculations, technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents.
•Manage design work involving roadways, streetscapes, utilities, grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, and related civil infrastructure systems.
•Apply both horizontal design experience, such as roadway, utility, drainage, and transportation infrastructure design, and vertical design experience, such as site/civil design supporting buildings, facilities, campuses, and commercial or institutional developments.
•Lead and mentor engineers, designers, and technical staff in the development of accurate, coordinated, and constructible design documents.
•Attend and lead meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, utility owners, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders to define requirements, resolve issues, and advance design decisions.
•Coordinate design submissions and permit documents with local, state, and regional agencies, including departments of transportation and other permitting authorities.
•Perform quality control reviews to ensure drawings and deliverables meet Hayat Brown standards, client requirements, and applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.
•Monitor project scope, budget, schedule, and deliverables, and proactively communicate risks, changes, and technical issues to project leadership.
•Support project management activities, including task planning, workload coordination, progress reporting, and client communication.
•Contribute to business development, proposal preparation, project interviews, and pursuit strategies for civil engineering and infrastructure opportunities.
•Represent Hayat Brown professionally in interactions with clients, public agencies, partners, and community stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
•8 to 12 years of post-education professional experience delivering civil engineering design services for infrastructure, transportation, site development, or building-related civil/site projects.
•Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
•Demonstrated experience with both horizontal and vertical design, including roadway, utility, grading, drainage, stormwater management, site development, and civil infrastructure systems supporting buildings or facilities.
•Strong knowledge of transportation-related infrastructure design in urban environments, including roadways, streetscapes, stormwater systems, erosion and sediment control, and utility coordination.
•Experience preparing construction documents, design reports, specifications, calculations, estimates, and permitting packages.
•Proficiency with OpenRoads, MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and related civil engineering design software.
•Familiarity with department of transportation procedures, local permitting requirements, and applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations.
•Ability to lead technical staff, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and manage multiple project priorities.
•Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
•Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, external clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders by phone, email, virtual meetings, and in-person meetings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Experience working on projects in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia region.
•Prior experience supporting public-sector transportation, utility, stormwater, or infrastructure clients.
•Experience with highly urban project environments, including constrained sites, utility conflicts, pedestrian and traffic impacts, and complex stakeholder coordination.
•Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting the development of technical standards or quality control procedures.
•Experience contributing to proposals, client presentations, and business development activities.
