Medical Office Specialist

Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Medical Office Specialist interacts directly with patients on the phone and face-to-face to support the front office operation. This position is responsible for scheduling appointments, processing payments both in-person and on the phone. Additionally, this position serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff. The Medical Office Specialist will possess excellent communication skills, organizational skills, computer experience, and must be a self-motivator. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Answer incoming calls, answering and transferring phone calls as required.Schedule new and follow-up appointments.Perform confirmation calls for patients and clients in a timely manner.Greet and check in patients in a courteous and friendly manner, verify and update necessary information in the medical record.Collect co-pay and/or payment at time of service as required.Establish agreed upon payment plans that meet policy requirements.Maintain knowledge of insurance eligibility.Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. REQUIRED SKILLS:Basic computer and data entry skills requiredAbility to handle cash and to count money at high volumes including mathematical computations.Effective oral and written communication skills.Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.Excellent organizational skills.Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.PREFERRED SKILLS:Bi-lingual preferred.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May require sitting for a long period of time. Some bending, lifting, stooping and stretching required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate office equipment such as computer keyboard, photocopier, telephone and calculator. Some lifting may be involved, up to 35 pounds.
