Business Officer II

The Center for Energy Research and Technology collaborates with industry, labor, education, government, and community leaders who create and expand access to energy research and energy related work-based education programs for people. The Business Officer will provide financial and administrative management of the CERT. This includes providing budgeting, procurement and administrative guidance to all stakeholders to ensure timely completion of required duties. This will involve leading communications across different groups and stakeholders internal and external and overseeing the administrative needs of the program. The business officer will be the primary point of contact for activities in the program at NC A&T: regular meetings, facilitating all financial transactions and reporting, supporting personnel changes, and fulfillment. The business officer will provide budget oversight and planning. This requires working closely with the director/PI on personnel actions, confirming personnel adhere to required guidelines at both the grant agency and institution guidelines and ensuring deadlines are met. Will supervise any Administrative Support Specialists, if hired, in achieving specific tasks related to university and grants processes. The business officer must be motivated yet flexible, diplomatic, creative, trustworthy, a good team player, and must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

The BO shall provide assistance to the director's strategic and executive leadership of the Center for Energy Research and Technology (CERT) and will report directly to the center's director. The BO will assist the center's Director for the administration and management of ongoing operations of CERT and its programs and resources; development and coordination of independent, interdisciplinary, and cooperative research programs; forecasting and identification of new potential lines of research in cooperation with industry and other research stakeholders; establishment of research priorities; oversight and management of the budget; formulation of long and short range plans for use of human and financial resources; development, maintenance, and improvement of critical laboratory facilities; generation of external grant and contract support to supplement the base budget of CERT; reporting of activities of CERT and the results of its research; promotion and maintenance of effective relations with the community and government; and maintenance of productive administrative relations at North Carolina A&T State University (NCA&TSU) and with other units of the University of North Carolina system.
